The “just” who need no repentance

I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
Luke 15:7

The "just" who need no repentance
The Lord Jesus once told His listeners the story of a shepherd who owned a hundred sheep. One of them wandered off on its own and lost its way. But the shepherd went looking for it, until he found it. Overjoyed, he carried it back home.

After telling the story, Jesus Christ explained what it meant. The lost sheep that was found represents a sinner who repents and consequently obtains peace with God.

What is the situation with the other ninety-nine sheep? The Lord designates them as "just persons who need no repentance" These ninety-nine are of the erroneous opinion that they are not guilty before God. They think that their relationship with God is in order. Such people are the vast majority of mankind - how tragic! They say: "Repent? I don't need to." That is what they think. But God thinks otherwise. The Bible says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). And God really means all! Only many do not agree and so are lost.

Wouldn't it be better to acknowledge God's verdict and submit to it? Then the great physician of the soul can help. If we turn away from all that has hitherto kept us from God and confess our sins before Him, He grants us forgiveness and eternal life. In addition He will help us to live according to His will. A change of that kind produces joy in heaven.

Today's reading: Exodus 32:1-6 · Luke 13:18-21

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
