There can be no better news than the message...

As cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a far country.
Proverbs 25:25

There can be no better news than the message that God has intended for us human beings. It is rightly called "the gospel", which means "good news".

Our great God, the Creator and Upholder of the universe, has a message for you personally, whoever you are and wherever you may be at this moment. This message can best be summarised in the well-known words of the Lord Jesus Christ: "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

Many people consider it impossible that God should express Himself by means of a book like the Bible. If God really exists, they argue, then as a higher immaterial Being He would not seek contact with us through printed matter.

It is true that God is Spirit. His Son, Jesus Christ Himself, said so: "God is Spirit" (John 4:24). But God chose specific men to write the Holy Scriptures. They recorded what God gave them by inspiration (cf. 1 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21). So the Bible is not a book shrouded in mystery. Its writers are historical persons, whose life led in close relationship with God is, to a great extent, known to us.

God has taken care that the text of the Bible, despite all attacks against it, has been preserved unchanged up to the present day. Nor has it lost any of its relevance and power.

Today's reading: Exodus 35:1-19 · Luke 16:1-13

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
