As Yoneko listened to the sermon on tape in hospital, she completely forgot that the preacher was in fact speaking to other people. She felt that God was using that message to speak to her! At the end of the sermon tears rolled down her cheeks. Akitoshi saw how moved she was and asked her, "Yoneko, would you like to pray?"

"God help me!" she prayed. "God, do help me!" she repeated more than once. She said, "When I expressed those few words, the thought struck me that I should surrender my whole life to Him. Whatever my future was, it should belong to Him."

When Akitoshi and his friend went home, Yoneko closed her eyes and didn't awake until the next morning. She was surprised that she had slept right through the whole night. That hadn't happened for months. Yoneko looked out of the window. It was a cloudless, blue sky and the spring sunshine was enticing the blossom to appear. "What a wonderful morning!" thought Yoneko. She was startled at her reaction: since her tragedy no day had been fine for her.

Yoneko took the New Testament that Akitoshi had left for her and read some passages at random. One brief sentence caught her attention: "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation."

Yoneko said, "I was so moved, I almost screamed out loud. That was exactly what had happened to me!"
