Stretch out your hand!

Whoever calls on the name LORD shall be saved. There is no other name given among men by which we must be saved.
Romans 10:13; Acts 4:12

Stretch out your hand!
Jesus "entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. So they watched him closely, whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. And he said to the man who had the withered hand, Step forward. Then he said to them, Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill? But they kept silent. And when he had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him" (Mark 3:1-6).

Let us learn two lessons from this passage of Scripture:

1. Lack of intelligence and hardness of heart characterised those who were blinded by religious pride to such an extent that they already wished to kill Jesus who was curing them.

2. The moral condition of everybody before God is similar to that of an invalid suffering from an incurable disease; that disease is his sin. How can we be cured? By doing what Jesus said, i.e. obeying Him. The man with the paralysed hand stretched it out. He believed without any doubt that Jesus would heal him. That movement of faith is what God demands for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Even today Jesus Christ can perform that miracle. He is ready to take the hand of whoever feels paralysed by his sin, to save him and grant him life and peace.
