The fear of man

The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe.
Proverbs 29:25

The fear of man
A fisherman was returning to land with a good catch. In his boat he had a large tub full of crabs. Before taking them to market, he lay back in the sunshine and had a sleep. A passer-by suddenly woke him up, saying, "Man, your crabs are trying to escape while you are asleep" But the fisherman only laughed and answered, "Don't worry" None of them will get over the edge. As soon as one has climbed up just a bit, trying to get free, another will come and hang on to him, then another will do the same. In the end the weight will be too much for the first one. He will let go and they will all fall back in the tub." The crabs themselves see to it that none escapes: So I can sleep in peace."

How many people are hindered when they are faced with making a decision to turn to God! They think: "What will my parents, my friends and my neighbours say, if I believe in Jesus Christ?" Although they know very well that their eternal salvation is at stake, they allow family or friendly connections to prevent them from repenting and accepting the gospel of God's grace.

They remain in bondage to the devil and sin, because they fear the criticism of others. How sad! But what about you yourself? Would you be lost eternally through the scorn of your fellowmen?

Today's reading: Jeremiah 7:1-34 · Luke 21:1-11

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
