A remote village was finally connected to the national...

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.I rejoice at your word as one who finds great treasure.
Psalm 119:105.162

A remote village was finally connected to the national grid. The work was finished, and an inspector visited the individual houses to check that everything was in order. An elderly lady on the hillside was asked if she was satisfied, "Oh yes," she replied, "I can now see much better to light my oil lamp."

We may smile at this, but with regard to light in another sense, there is much that surprises us. Many people grope their way through this world's moral darkness. They possess a Bible, but fail to open it. From time to time they may read a religious article or even a calendar leaf, but that is not sufficient. They resemble people who prefer an oil lamp to the much brighter electric light.

In the course of history there have been countless lengthy periods when possessing or reading a Bible was forbidden. And how often have Christians risked their lives, going miles to be able to read one of the few Bibles available just for a brief time. For these believers the Word of God was not merely light for their pathway; it was the source from which they derived comfort and joy.

Let us not leave our Bible on the shelf like a lamp left dark in the evening. Let us rather allow it to direct the light of God's Word on to our hearts for our salvation, security and joy in our lives.

Today's reading: Jeremiah 20:1-18 · Luke 24:1-12

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
