In 1932 two Christians undertook a long...

I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Romans 1:16; Galatians 3:28

In 1932 two Christians undertook a long journey through the Libyan desert. It took them from the north-west of Sudan through Egypt to the far east of Libya. A caravan of fourteen camels transported their luggage: food, indispensable water and a precious freight of Bibles and new Testaments in Arabic.

These messengers of the gospel had just reached the oasis of Siva, when a sheik approached them and scrutinised one of them. Did he perhaps know them? And did he want to prevent Bibles being offered in the oasis?

The Arab then addressed the Christian: "May I ask you a question? Aren't you the man who sells books?" - "Yes, I am. But I do not know you." - "Weren't you in the oasis of Kharga? Perhaps you remember the bookshop there and the sheik who bought parts of the Bible from you. I am that man. I have read these tracts so often that I know them by heart."

The two then spoke about the Word of God and Jesus Christ for quite a long time. Two years later the colporteur received a letter from that Arab that began with the words: "My brother in Christ"!

Since then 88 years have passed, but the gospel has lost nothing of its power. It can still change a person's heart and life thoroughly

Today's reading: Jeremiah 28:1-17 · Romans 3:21-31

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
