In the New York metro

Stand here awhile, that I may announce to you the word of God.O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.
1 Samuel 9:27; Jeremiah 22:29

In the New York metro
From the collection of replies to a questionnaire on people's interests and their priorities the Washington Post reported the following experience: Joshua Beil, a virtuoso violinist, was asked to play in an underground station in Washington. Two days previously a concert that he was giving in Boston was advertised with seats costing almost 100 dollars apiece.

On a cold afternoon in January 2007 he played for 40 minutes down in a station at peak hour. Only seven persons actually stopped to listen to him for a moment. About twenty others donated money without stopping. Only one person out of more than a thousand recognised him.

One of the conclusions to be drawn from this experience might be: if we have no time to stop, recognise and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, what other worthwhile things do we miss as a result?

Every day millions pass by God without seeing or hearing Him, as if He did not exist. He is relegated to religious buildings, even though He is right near us where we are, ready to reveal Himself in our everyday life. Like passers-by excessively occupied with their business, we haven't the time to stop and assess His love towards us and His gift in giving Jesus.

"Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it" (Luke 11:28).

Today's reading: Jeremiah 33:1-26 · Romans 6:17-23

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

Don't Lose Sight

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
