A reader once wrote: “I would like to believe all...

Jesus said to him, Thomas, because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
John 20:29

A reader once wrote: "I would like to believe all that is written in this calendar, but much of it is too fantastic! Do the writers themselves really believe what they write?" Let us state emphatically: "Yes, we do!" But there have always been sceptics. Just consider the apostle Thomas! He believed that Jesus was the future king of Israel. But he could not be persuaded to accept what he thought impossible. His friends had just told him that they had seen their crucified Lord alive. That was going too far: he had seen how the soldiers had nailed Him to the cross. And one had thrust a spear into His side. Anyone to whom that happened must be dead; there was no doubt about that. If Christ had truly risen from the dead, there must be unmistakeable proof!

Thomas did not have to wait long: some days later he was with the other apostles. Suddenly the Lord was standing among them. He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at my hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into my side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing" (v. 27). Thomas was overcome: "My Lord and my God," he replied (v. 28).

At the end of his gospel the apostle John underlines the truth of all that he has written (ch, 21, v. 24) Many have trusted the biblical reports of the eye-witnesses. They have also experienced the truth of the resurrection in their own lives: Jesus lives!

Today's reading: Jeremiah 34:1-22 · Romans 7:1-6

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
