Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (139)

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs - heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified together.
Romans 8:16.17

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (139)
In the "Spirit of adoption" whom believers have received they cry out, "Abba, Father" (v. 15). Jesus had used this intimate Aramaic form of address in the garden of Gethsemane, thereby expressing His perfect trust in His Father and His dependence on Him. This loving relationship with God has now been granted to the Christian.

Christians have a twofold testimony of it. Their own spirit shows them in connection with their new nature that they truly belong to God's family and are His children. The Holy Spirit who indwells them is also one with this testimony. At this point we should like to ask our readers whether they have the happy assurance that they are children of God.

Children are heirs. Therefore God's children are the heirs of all that He possesses. The expression "joint heirs with Christ" shows us just how far that goes and what justifies it. To Him belong as the Creator and Redeemer all things in heaven and on earth. And the children of God have a share in them with Him.

Believers are also heirs, because they suffer with Christ. Here in this world He suffered exceedingly through the prevalence of sin and its evil fruits (cf. Matthew 7:34). For His own it is no different. They have received a new nature; so they can feel as Christ did. But in view of all their suffering they have the promise that they will be glorified together with Him.

(to be continued next Sunday)

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

ATTENTIVE TO THE MASTER'S INSTRUCTIONS?

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by someone you claim to be your guide or guardian. Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
