Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (140)

I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
Romans 8:18.19

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (140)
Christians are aware of the consequences of sin, unbelief and rebellion against God with all that ensues from them. Their new nature that loves God and what is good causes them to suffer as a result. They suffer with Christ, because He likewise suffered. But just as believers suffer, so, too, they will be glorified together with Him (v. 17).

Christians endure various sufferings on earth. But they fade away in view of the future glory awaiting them. Moreover, the sufferings are limited, whereas glory will be endless. Paul wrote: "Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more excellent and eternal weight of glory" (2 Corinthians 4:17).

Creation is at present still waiting for "the revealing of the sons of God". When will it take place? First Christ will take those who believe on Him as their Saviour or who died in faith in His work of salvation (John 14:2.3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16.17). Then will come a time when judgment will come upon the whole earth, as described in the book of Revelation. After this period of judgment Christ will appear on earth in power and glory to establish the millennial reign of peace. The believers will be revealed with Him and reign with Him for the blessing of the whole of creation (Colossians 3:4; Revelation 20:4).

(to be continued next Sunday)
