Various gifts, but the same Spirit

There are diversities of gifts but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are differences of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.
1 Corinthians 12:4-6

Various gifts, but the same Spirit
The Holy Spirit does not reveal Himself in one way and one person alone. This is evident in the church, the body of Christ. Just as God has made the individual parts of the body different in creation, so, too, the Holy Spirit forms the spiritual body similarly. He places each member in the body where he or she belongs and gives each one the gift needed there. It is one body that consists in the diversity of its members.

In the variety of gifts the voice of the one Spirit is to be heard, and through this diversity the various needs are served. We may not be fully aware of how varied the needs of believers are, but the Holy Spirit gives all the gifts necessary for these needs. Normally, however, He does not unify them all in one preacher or in only a few persons. The Spirit of God is under no restriction, but can distribute the gifts as He sees fit. He uses whomsoever He will. Man must not impose any restriction on Him, not even through any well meant organisation.

If the gifts of grace are held back from edifying believers, it is to their detriment. The unlimited power of the Holy Spirit is then disregarded, and the ministry restricted to certain persons. Then many needs are not catered for. Should we therefore not trust the leading of the Lord Jesus through His Spirit and obey Him more?

Today's reading: Lamentations 2:11-22 · Psalm 44:1-8

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
