Andrew, the Lord's disciple
Andrew, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, was less well known than John or Simon Peter. He wrote no gospel or epistle. Very little is said of him. However, on three occasions Andrew played a very apt part:

When he made the acquaintance of Jesus, his first care was to find his brother Simon and lead him to Jesus (John 1:42). And Simon became the apostle Peter. God used a humble, unobtrusive disciple to bring to Jesus one who was consequently to become better known. May we humbly remain within the Master's hearing, ready to serve.

Jesus commanded His disciples to feed a famished multitude, but they had nothing available. Then Andrew drew the Lord's attention to a "lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish" (John 6:9). It wasn't much, but as Jesus was there, it was worth mentioning. And thanks to him the boy's minimal resources could be given over to Jesus to increase. The multitude was fed and satisfied.

Shortly before Jesus died, some Greeks wanted to see Him. They approached Philip; who informed Andrew. Together they spoke to their Master (John 12:20-22). Once again, through Andrew those Greeks were brought to Jesus.

These simple, discreet interventions on Andrew's part were the origin of great blessing.

Let us not seek to be prominent, but like Andrew carry out simply and faithfully the small things that the Lord gives us to do. And let us leave to Him the provision of a rich blessing.
