Jesus Christ the righteous (1)

Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God.
1 Peter 3:18

Jesus Christ the righteous (1)
Various titles are given to the Lord Jesus in the Bible. One of them is "the righteous" (1 John 2:19). He earned such a title through His life here on earth that was perfectly in harmony with God's will. He never once thought, said or did anything that did not correspond to God's mind. In the entire history of mankind He was the only human being in whom God could have unmitigated, constant joy. We can well understand why God the Father opened heaven over Him to testify: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:17).

Because Jesus Christ proved to be the righteous One during His life here below, He could take the place of sinners at the cross and suffer and die for their sins. May He receive praise and thanks eternally for doing so!

By suffering and dying for the unjust, which we were by nature, He had a great objective in mind: "that he might bring us to God", who wished to have us close to Him instead of being separated by sin. His plan was to make sons of His human creatures, with whom He could have loving fellowship. But our sins kept us at a distance from the holy One. They had to be atoned for, and we needed to be reconciled with Him to be able to approach Him. The Lord Jesus met all His demands as the righteous One, so that we can now stand as believers before God, "conveyed into the kingdom of the Son of his love" (Colossians 1:13). What a transformation!

(to be concluded tomorrow)

Today's reading: Leviticus 13:9-28 · Psalm 59:1-9

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
