A reproach from Jesus(Read: Luke 24; vv. 13-31)

Certain women arrived at the tomb early. When they did not find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said he was alive. Certain of those who were with us went to the tomb, but him they did not see.
Luke 24:22-24.

A reproach from Jesus(Read: Luke 24; vv. 13-31)
Two of Jesus' disciples left Jerusalem with sad hearts. Instead of instituting the glorious reign of the Messiah, as they had hoped, Jesus had just been crucified. Their wishes were shattered.

A stranger joined them on their journey. He sensed their sadness and inquired after it. They told him about the recent happenings and the news of that same morning: some had said that He was alive, but they hadn't seen Him.

The stranger listened, then reproached them: "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe." And he showed them that what had happened had been prophesied in Scripture (i.e. the Old Testament known to the Jews) long before. The words of this unknown person bowled the disciples over completely.

When they reached their destination they did not want to part from the one who had explained what they were experiencing from the scriptures they should have known.

They begged him to remain with them in their home, and he acepted their invitation "to stay with them". He, too, wished for their company. Then, when they were at the table, he handed them bread after breaking the loaf. And they recognised Him: it was Jesus, their risen Master!

Dear Christians, do not we also sometimes deserve a reproach from our Master? Jesus is faithful: He makes us aware of our weaknesses, at the same time instructing us lovingly and patiently.

Today's reading: Leviticus 25:39-55 · Psalm 71:1-8

THE SACRIFICES IN THE BOOK OF NUMBERS (8)

Whoever touches the body of anyone who has died, and does not purify himself That person shall be cut off from Israel. He shall be unclean, because the water of purification was not sprinkled on him.

GOD HAS A SUBSTITUTE

One thing we need to learn in today's reading is that God always has a substitute. If God says He wants you, rejoice! However, be careful, because even as He is choosing you, He has already prepared a substitute.
