Germany regards the 31st October as the day of the...

The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18

Germany regards the 31st October as the day of the Reformation, when Martin Luther is said to have posted his 95 theses on the church door in Wittenberg. Whether he or anyone else actually did so is doubtful, but the 95 theses definitely existed.

That Jesus of Nazareth actually lived on earth is in no way dubious. And the fact that He was nailed to a cross is firmly established. God Himself tells us so in His Word. It is also recorded by the non-Christian historians Josephus and Tacitus.

The central point in Luther's life and work was precisely: Christ and His death by crucifixion. Let us hear what Luther himself said on the subject in his so-called "table talk".

"God calls from heaven: This is my beloved Son. Hear him" (Matthew 17:5), as if He meant: what people undertake to fathom my divine majesty is in vain. Human reason and wisdom cannot comprehend Me: I am too highly exalted and too great. I shall therefore make Myself sufficiently small, so that people can grasp who I am.

I shall send them my only begotten Son and give Him to become for them a sacrifice, sin and a curse. And in that character He will be obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. And I shall have that preached throughout the whole world. All who believe in it shall be saved."

That is what Paul meant, when he said: "Since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe" (1 Corinthians 1:21).

Know When To Say Nothing

The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue.' Isaiah 50:4 NIV

Isaiah writes: The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.'

Let's face it;...More
