I was once driving my car alongside a river...

The LORD has said concerning you, Do not go to Egypt! Know certainly that I have admonished you this day.
Jeremiah 42:19

I was once driving my car alongside a river. Shortly before the bridge a roadblock had been set up across the entire width of the road. There a workman informed the drivers that the bridge was under repair and could not be crossed. He pointed out two possibilities: either drive back to the nearest road junction or take the narrow road along the bank which was full of potholes that in the present rainy period had turned into huge puddles.

The lorry drivers by the bridge all asked the same question: "Why isn't there a warning sign at the last junction? That would have spared us difficulties and saved time."

When Christians take the wrong direction to Egypt on their life's journey and turn back to this present evil world, from which the Lord Jesus has delivered us (cf. Galatians 1:4), they waste valuable time until they put things in order again. They could have been living in happy fellowship with the Lord, spending the time usefully in His service. Such ways have all too often caused sad consequences with much trouble and worry.

No-one can make the excuse that he had not been warned about the wrong way in time. The Bible gives sufficient warnings. God has admonished us earnestly and early enough.

If we have gone the wrong way, He urges us to return. We must then go back to the place where we deviated from our course in order to enjoy fellowship with Him again.

Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 15:1-24 · Psalm 88:1-10

When we do this, our land will be free from evil and it will yield great increase for our pleasure (Deuteronomy 28). I encourage you reading this devotional to give your life to Jesus Christ...More
