During the twelve years in which she...

A certain woman, when she heard about Jesus, she came behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, If only I may touch his clothes, I shall be made well.
Mark 5:25-28

During the twelve years in which she suffered from the disease she had tried everything to be cured, consulting doctors and spending all her money, but things had only worsened. Then she heard of the Lord Jesus. He had come to seek and to save what was lost. She did not know Him personally, but what she had heard prompted her to seek Him out. Even today that is the right course. The woman believed the words she had heard. If anyone could help, He was the one.

At first she was too embarrassed to speak to Jesus directly because of her disease. But no-one needs to be ashamed to reveal his life to the Lord.

When she reached Him, she acted as she planned. She touched His clothes and trusted that He had the power to heal her. She was not disappointed, for the Lord said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well."

Going through the dense crowd, the Lord had been touched by many people, as the disciples remarked. But what a difference there was between that woman and the rest! She had acted in faith, the rest sought no personal benefit from Him.

Today we need to ask whether we truly want to meet the Saviour of the world. He can remove our guilt of sin. That is the application of this incident for us. We must have the wish to enter into a personal relationship with Him, confess our shortcomings and accept the forgiveness He offers.

Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 28:1-21 · 1 Timothy 4:1-6
