The beauty of Jesus Christ

You are fairer than the sons of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you for ever.
Psalm 45:2

The beauty of Jesus Christ
Today's text from the psalms undoubtedly refers to Jesus Christ. He is more beautiful than all other people, even if we read of Him in Isaiah 53, v. 2: "He has no form nor comeliness, and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him." How are we to understand these two apparently contradictory prophetic statements?

What Isaiah wrote in chapter 53 refers to the Lord Jesus' outward appearance. He did not come to His people in grand style and royal glory. His build and appearance were not conspicuous, for externally He did not stand out from other people. Yet there was one vast difference: He was the only sinless Person!

Psalm 45 speaks of His moral beauty that became visible in His conduct.

There was never a man as patient as Jesus Christ. He always remained calm and took time for the affairs of other people, dealing with their problems.

Never has a man lived as righteously as the Lord. He fully met God's demands and fulfilled His mission and all His duties towards His contemporaries.

No-one ever spoke like the Saviour. All His sayings fitted the situation and the listeners. He never said too much or too little.

Nor was any human being as obedient as Jesus. It was His joy to carry out God's will. He was obedient even to the death of the cross (cf. Philippians 2:8).

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 29:1-19 · Revelation 15:1-8

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
