At the start of a New Year we probably...

The LORD said in his heart, ...While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.
Genesis 8: 21.22.

At the start of a New Year we probably sense more than ever that the future is like unknown territory through which we have to go. Some things that will come upon us may already be looming, but on the whole we have no idea what lies ahead for us.
One thing, however, we know for certain: that the change from summer to winter, or from day to night, will continue normally. Have we ever considered the constancy of this aspect of our lives to be a particular blessing of God's? God decided "in his heart" to so arrange the laws of nature that seedtime and harvest would not end in the alternation of the seasons, so long as the earth exists. Let us thank our Creator for this.

In the New Year, too, we shall experience seedtime and harvest. Let us not overlook the fact that many of the world's inhabitants suffer from famine; but this has nothing to do with the Creator's readiness to provide.

There is, however, another form of seed. Concerning this the Bible says: "He who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap eternal life" (Galatians 6: 8). Sowing this seed is something we have to do here and now; the harvest will come later. The seed itself we find in the Bible, the Word of God. It is the Word itself, which we keep with "a noble and good heart" (Luke 8: 15). May we, in view of the New Year that has just commenced, keep this in mind and ask the Lord to teach us to be true disciples, making good use of our time on earth.

Today‘s reading: Numbers 1: 1 - 21 · Matthew 1: 1 - 17

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More
