In his first epistle the apostle John takes up...

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the word of life.
1 John 1: 1.

In his first epistle the apostle John takes up the thoughts expressed in his gospel, the first chapter of which states: "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, .

God's purpose was to show us in Jesus Christ, His Son, what God Himself really is like: how He thinks, feels and acts. We have no need to remain uncertain about God. We can come to know Him personally in the Lord Jesus Christ. What a gift He has given us! But we shall benefit from it, only if we accept it by receiving Christ, the Saviour and Lord into our own life.
