Peace

Saying, Peace, peace! when there is no peace.
Jeremiah 8: 11.

Peace
The longing for peace and harmonious relationships in every sphere of life is considerable.

In politics intensive efforts are made to achieve peaceful solutions for all kinds of problems. Every endeavour is made to bring disunited parties around a table to sign peace treaties, yet the number of armed conflicts in the world does not decrease.

In firms the employees attend courses in order to learn how to deal with conflicts, as everyone knows that enmity and disagreement at one's place of work are detrimental to the success of the business.

In private life people want their peace. To prevent quarrelling in a marriage or family, people remain silent or avoid each other. That such behaviour is not conducive to a harmonious relationship is absolutely clear.

The question therefore arises as to why there is no genuine, lasting peace on earth with all the trouble taken to achieve it. The reason is: we all have by nature a wicked heart, which is the source of enmity and quarrelling.

A thorough change needs to take place inside us to improve matters. What Jesus Christ once told Nicodemus applies to us, too: . God alone is able to bring about this change through His Word and His Spirit. If we believe on His Son Jesus Christ, He grants us new life through regeneration. We are then in a position to put hostile feelings aside and seek peace with our fellowmen.

Peace is possessed by those who simply hide
In Christ alone, and in His word confide;
Read clear their pardon, written full and plain
By God Himself, who sees them without stain.

Today‘s reading: Deuteronomy 2: 26 - 37 · Matthew 20: 29 - 34

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
