Thoughts on the Gospel of John (35)

He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no-one receives his testimony. He who has received his testimony has certified that God is true.
John 3: 31 - 33.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (35)
John the Baptist is still speaking to his disciples about Jesus Christ. One might think that John cannot cease speaking about Him, once he has started.

Whoever follows what John says attentively will learn a lot about Christ. He came "from above", as the next sentence confirms. That can be said of no other person. Moreover, no-one is "above all" except the incarnate Son of God. If Jesus were not God, John could not have spoken thus. In contrast to all who have their origin here on earth, the Son of God has no origin. .

(to be continued next Sunday)

Today‘s reading: Deuteronomy 10: 12 - 22 · Matthew 24: 29 - 36

I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
