We preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Somewhere in England there was a church over whose porch one could read the engraving: "We preach Christ crucified". In the course of time ivy started growing over the walls and covered the last word: "We preach Christ". Later it was only "We preach", and finally the entire inscription was covered.
