Investing for Christ
I used to know an elderly Christian woman who was ill and totally dependent on others. As a professor of languages she had been very active and had travelled a lot. Now, being almost deaf and blind, she lived with a family related to her.

Her positive state mind, her untroubled joy and living faith constantly comforted those who visited her. She was grateful for the care lavished on her and praised the goodness of her Lord.

She took a particular interest in the life of believers and the families of those who visited her. She was happy to pray for each one during her long periods of sleeplessness. She expressed her joy at having read the Bible a lot in her youth and now remembered whole chapters and numerous hymns by heart.

In her younger days she had accumulated much "spiritual capital" and now enjoyed the "interest" that proceeded from it, while others also profited from it, even though she herself was completely dependent on it.

Today's verse from the Bible speaks not only to unbelievers; it is also valuable for God's children. Youth is an especially favourable time to memorise Bible texts that produce riches for an entire life. It is a secure investment.
