Times were bad when this character, Enoch, lived.

The economy and culture were developing well, to be sure, but brutality and violence were increasing in a horrific measure. And that was a very long time ago: before the great flood.

"We must make the best of things!" most people say under such conditions. It was so then, and things haven't changed today. But Enoch behaved otherwise: he swam against the tide by living with God.

Where was the righteous God, if everything was in turmoil? Enoch, that man of faith, knew that God was there despite everything. God was waiting to see whether people would turn to Him before He brought the judgment He had announced upon this earth (cf. .
