Over two thousand years ago a God-fearing man named...

My eyes have seen your salvation which you have prepared before the face of all peoples, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.
Luke 2: 30 - 32.

Over two thousand years ago a God-fearing man named Simeon lived in Israel. He waited longingly for the "consolation of Israel" (. Today's verses above follow.

Let us imagine this moving scene: away from the bustle of the merchants the young parents look on and listen in amazement, and Simeon's gleaming eyes cannot look away from the child in his arms.

In the finest hour of his life he calls the child in his arms the "salvation" that God had prepared for all peoples and a "light" for the Gentile nations. That exceeded by far what the Jews were expecting. "Before the face of all peoples"? Indeed, in His Son, Jesus Christ, God offers the forgiveness of sins and eternal salvation to everyone. For that very reason the Son of God became Man, to bring redemption for all who believe in Him through His death on the cross.

Today‘s reading: 1 Kings 7: 23 - 37 · John 6: 25 - 35
