Before the catastrophe

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation?

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.

Hebrews 2: 3; John 14: 27.

Before the catastrophe
A humorous poster warned the inhabitants living near an atomic power station of the danger they were exposed to. The picture showed a signpost with the words "In the event of an atomic alarm" pointing to a small glass case with a hammer to break the glass, and in the case was a Bible.

One thing was missing: the words "Too late!" The Bible is not a book for later life, nor a manual for survival after a catastrophe; it is the book to be read today. Its message is urgent. It is a message of love and truth, for death can come at any moment, and one must be prepared to meet God without waiting any longer. How many people are negligent and postpone making their decision until later! This "later" can be "too late".

Don't wait till you retire. Will you reach that age? And if you do, will your mind still be clear enough to settle with God the question of your soul's fate in the life beyond?

How will you stand before God? In peace, because Jesus will have given you His peace, or laden with the burden of all your sins? Today you must confess your wrongdoings and grasp His grace to receive eternal life: that is the "great salvation". It is offered to all who believe that Jesus made peace through His sacrifice at the cross. He will not only grant you the certainty of future, eternal joy, but from now He will enable you to sense a peace and joy that the world cannot give you.

Today‘s reading: 1 Kings 18: 17 - 29 · John 12: 9 - 19

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
