The spider’s thread

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey.

If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Romans 6: 16; John 8: 36.

The spider's thread
My work forced me to live away from home for long periods. That was a burden for my family. My young daughter once decided to tie me hand and foot to stop me from going away. Armed with a ball of string, she started to wind it round me. After a few circuits she stopped and said triumphantly: "Daddy, try to get free!" I could easily have broken free, but didn't want to spoil her fun. She again skipped round me with the ball in her hand. "Can you get out?" I pretended to try and failed, which pleased her. She bound me up completely, and I attempted to break the bonds. It was too late. What would have been child's play at the start was now impossible. "There! You're a prisoner!" she cried jubilantly, clapping her hands. Whether I liked it or not, I had to call my wife for help.

This incident reminded me of the spider's technique. To neutralise its prey, it entwines it in a very fine, but very strong thread, long enough to totally paralyse it.

The devil uses the same technique, enticing his prey little by little into habits from which it cannot extricate itself, so that it falls into some fatal addiction. However, it is never too late to call on God to be freed completely. .

Today‘s reading: 1 Kings 19: 1 - 10 · John 12: 27 - 36

One of themselves, a prophet of their own, has said, Cretans are always liarsThis testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them severely, that they may be sound in the faith.

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
