Hidden under the bed

O LORD, you have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.
Psalm 139: 1 - 3.

Hidden under the bed
The following incident took place in Brazil:

A burglar broke into a house one evening. Hearing a noise, he quickly slipped under a bed. To his horror all the members of the family gathered in the room where he was hidden. And lo and behold, the father sat down on that bed, picked up a book and read a page from it to his wife and children. They were wonderful words; our thief had never heard anything like them before. When the reading was over all the family knelt down to pray. The father seemed to be speaking to a friend who was present. Our thief hardly believed it possible to speak to God with such confidence and liberty.

The family then withdrew, and everything was silent in the house. Everyone went to sleep. The intruder crawled out of his hiding-place and, still trembling, hurriedly left the house, taking nothing with him except that mysterious black book lying on the table.

It was a Bible, and he began reading it avidly. As he read, a conviction impressed itself on him: the secret of true happiness was to be found in that book! Months passed, then one day he sought God through Jesus Christ, confessed his sins and obtained forgiveness.

What was he to do? Simply take that precious book back to its owners and tell them his story.

So in that same room, on their knees, the father and the thief together thanked the Lord for making them brothers in Jesus Christ.

Today‘s reading: 1 Kings 20: 13 - 30 · John 13: 16 - 30

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
