Believe in the gospel!

Repent, and believe in the gospel.
Mark 1:15.

Believe in the gospel!
Right at the beginning of His public ministry Jesus asked His listeners (and us, too) to repent and believe in the gospel. Repentance, that inner change, is closely linked to faith in the gospel.

What does the phrase mean? Simply accepting the good news that Jesus preached. Having faith in this good news expresses confidence in Him, just as accepting a proposal someone has made expresses the confidence you have in him.

On the pathway of faith there are obstacles. They can be external: the attraction of riches, the search for power, or even persecution in some parts of the world. They can also be internal like doubt or the fear of rejection. All these obstacles necessitate "letting go", casting oneself on God to go forward. Faith places confidence entirely in God, who alone can save us from sin and death.

Believing the gospel is also living from it, living from the sayings of Jesus; for it is in everyday life that confidence in God becomes real and we discover how true His sayings are, or how they are able to grant us hope, joy and strength in times of trial. Finally, living out the gospel brings forth growth: loving freely, serving humbly in this deep-felt joy over Christ's presence, living out our commitment in the peace of His grace and the strength of His light.

"Believe it, o sinner, believe it.
Receive the glad message: ‘tis true;
Trust now in the crucified Saviour,
Salvation He offers to you."

Today‘s reading: Ezekiel 16: 1 - 34 · Psalms 119: 97 - 112

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
