Attacked by a shark

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith.

Giving thanks to the Father, who has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of his love.

1 Peter 5: 8.9; Colossians 1: 12.13.

Attacked by a shark
The media reported a surprising sundry item of news. It happened during a surfing competition in South Africa. One of the participants suddenly felt something moving under his surfboard. There was a bump, then a triangular flipper emerged. It was undoubtedly a shark attacking. The man's reflex was to strike the creature's back and make off as quickly as possible. He found shelter in a nearby boat just in time.

That prowling animal searching for prey reminds us of a formidable adversary who attacks human beings: the devil, also called Satan, or . The Bible, which confirms his existence, also designates him as an adversary or roaring lion (cf. today's verse), "the wicked one" (Matthew 13: 19), a liar and murderer (John 8: 44), a deceiver (Genesis 3: 13), etc.. God puts us on our guard against this enemy by unveiling his intentions: namely, seeking to trouble believers and lead them astray, urging them to undertake all kinds of moral or physical wickedness, opposing God in any way possible, preventing people from hearing the gospel. He seeks man's misfortune.

Whoever refuses to put his trust in the blood of Jesus is still a slave of that hard, cruel master, even if he is unaware of it. Yet Satan has been conquered at the cross: those who believe in Jesus are saved and have Him as their Saviour and Master ever after.

Today‘s reading: Ezekiel 21: 1 - 37 · Psalms 123: 1 - 4

BE TRULY ROOTED

You can overcome the attacks of the devil if you can simply obey God's Word. Before taking on the devil, be sure of your salvation because the salvation of many today is questionable. Many are pretenders and have really never answered the altar call for salvation at any time. At the time they should be answering...More

YOUR FIRST LOVE

As a Christian, your heart ought to be aglow with genuine love for Christ, unless you are not genuinely saved as a result of having not truly repented from your sins even though you have confessed Jesus. At the new birth experience, the Holy Spirit regenerates our spirit and fills it with deep and pure love for...More

Imitation or Genuine?

"All the prophets were prophesying before them. Then Zedekiah said, 'This is what the LORD says' All the prophets were prophesying this as well." - 1 Kings 22:10-12 NASB

Zedekiah understood what it meant to be a prophet. He knew the vocabulary and how to deliver prophecies. In similar ways, others...More
