Two aspects of birth

Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
John 3: 5.6.

1. Two aspects of birth
You may find today's verse from the Bible strange, but as a saying of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself it is the truth. There are indeed two totally different ways of being born

To begin with, every single person enters this world in the same way: by natural birth from the mother's womb.

Alongside natural birth that everyone has experienced, however, the Lord Jesus speaks of new birth - being born of the Spirit.

Since mankind by nature stands under the influence of sin, everyone needs this new birth in order to be able to enjoy fellowship with the living God. And whoever has experienced this new birth receives eternal, divine life and becomes a member of God's family.

What must we do to be born of the Spirit and receive this life? We must believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who became Man in order to die for lost sinners. He died so that they might "have life" through Him (cf. ). "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life" (John 3: 36).

Regarding our natural birth to enter this world, we had no choice. But whether we enter the kingdom of God, receiving life through the new birth, is for us to decide. It depends on whether we accept God's offer or not. The Lord Jesus Christ said, "You must be born again" (John 3:7).

MEAL OF REMEMBRANCE

The Holy Communion is a very significant meal. Unlike regular meals, it a meal of remembrance. When some people take this meal, they forget to heed the instruction in today's Bible reading where the Lord repeatedly said "this do in remembrance of Me". In other words, the meal reminds us of God's power of...More
