Thoughts on the Gospel of John (71)

On the following day, when the people who were standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except that one which his disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but his disciples had gone away alone - however, other boats cane from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks - when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. And when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when did you come here?
John 6: 22 - 25.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (71)
An eventful day had ended. On the mountain the disciples had witnessed how the Lord had satisfied the hunger of 5,000 men with the five loaves and two fish available. Afterwards they were in distress at sea, but through their Master they reached their destination safely.

The multitude that had witnessed the miracle with the food was thrilled; they expected more from Jesus, but not finding Him wondered where He had gone.

People do seek Jesus, some with much effort, and their conduct, like that of the multitude, shows that they hold Him in a certain honour. But what is their actual aim? Does His Person attract them, or do they simply want to benefit from His divine power?

What is decisive is not only what we think of Jesus but our personal relationship to Him. Many will one day say to Jesus, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, and done many wonders in your name?" He will then declare: .
