How a father shows pity and mercy

As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities those who fear him.
Psalm 103: 13.

How a father shows pity and mercy
A father must often withhold things from his children or forbid them to do certain things, as he sees a danger involved. They fail to understand why they must not climb this tree or jump down from that wall. So it sometimes happens that they ignore the prohibition and injure themselves

How will a good father react? In his heart he sympathises with the disobedient child. Yet punishment must follow, so that the child keeps within the limits set. He controls his anger, remembering that such punishment is inflicted out of love and should have a beneficial effect.

Our heavenly Father acts similarly with us. Because He wishes to bless us and keep us from danger, He gives us the necessary instructions in His Word. We sometimes think we know better and ignore them. It is then no wonder if we suffer spiritually.

Our God and Father is aware of the difficulty into which our self-will has brought us and has pity on us. Although we have disobeyed Him, He does not leave us in the lurch, but comes to our aid, so that we are restored to fellowship. He cannot spare us the consequences of a lapse or a wrong pathway, but in his grace He can help us to bear them.

It is possible that we get into difficulties through no fault of our own. Our God and Father knows how we suffer as a result. He sympathises with us and, in His mercy, undertakes for us so that we come to terms with the situation.

Today‘s reading: Ezekiel 37: 1 - 14 · Psalms 137: 1 - 9

BE STRONG

You don't charge someone to be strong if there is no task to be performed or if pressure is not required, either for motion or putting up resistance against an opposing force. In the physical realm, mere movement requires strength. This explains why a sick person or a person just recovering from an ailment finds it...More

Acts 5:4-5

God often proves to be other than people think. Here, for example, death struck a man suddenly for lying before God. Is God therefore severe, when he makes use of His power unreservedly towards the weak?
Let us first briefly examine what preceded this judgment. Holy zeal for the...More
