The inhabitants of the island of Nias, near Sumatra, were...

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.
Matthew 4:16.

The inhabitants of the island of Nias, near Sumatra, were formerly head-hunters. One islander reported what the gospel of Jesus Christ had brought about among his people:

"Until the gospel came to us, we resembled people stuck in a swamp and sinking deeper and deeper; we were being ruined, body and soul. Our vice corrupted us, and our constant fear of evil spirits and the horror of death was wearing us down.

Then we heard the good news of Jesus Christ. He died and rose again for us; He takes our guilt of sin away and grants us new, eternal life."

An African from Cameroon remembers how he and his tribe shuddered because of evil spirits as soon as night fell. Nor did they feel really secure in the daytime. But then the bright light of the gospel penetrated their darkness and led them to freedom. When they received the first New Testaments in their own language, that man said, "Now we shall be strong. The Word of God will fortify us."

Freedom from the compulsion to sin, being loosed from the bondage of superstition and fear, forgiveness of the guilt of one's life and the strength for a victorious life are what everyone in every nation can obtain by surrendering their life to the Son of God and living according to His Word.

"I have written to you because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one" .

Today's reading: Nehemiah 10:1-39 · Proverbs 15:23-33

NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

There is a nature that is of the Earth and there is a nature that is of Heaven. Since the fall of man, the earthly nature of man has become corrupted and therefore is greatly under the influence of the kingdom of Satan. Characteristic features of this nature are: wickedness, moral perversion - sodomy and all sorts of...More
