Today’s verse from the Bible comes from one of...

Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Matthew 22:12.

Today's verse from the Bible comes from one of the parables that the Lord Jesus Christ told so as to explain clearly to His listeners things not easily envisaged. The issue here is: what condition must be fulfilled for someone to spend eternity in God's presence in heaven?
A king wished to give a wedding feast for his son. Special guests were invited, but despite being asked twice to attend, they did not come. Their daily routine was more important. So they disdained the privilege.

Now the king ordered his servants to call anyone who wanted to come from every street corner: a motley crowd from very different backgrounds. That didn't matter as every guest was given a wedding garment provided by the king, so that all conformed to the royal pattern. Finally the king came to greet the guests. He discovered one man without the wedding garment and demanded to know why. The man had no excuse and was cast out forthwith.

Here is the answer to our question: in heaven there will be only those whom God has "clothed" with the "robe of righteousness" that He alone gives to those who have "faith in Jesus" (cf. Isaiah 61:10; Romans 3:26). "All our righteousnesses are like filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6). But whoever avails himself of Christ's work of atonement at Calvary, obtains the forgiveness of his sins and can join in with those who "greatly rejoice in the LORD ... for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation" (Isaiah 61:10).

Today's reading: Nahum 2:1-13 · Proverbs 30:11-23

BROKENNESS

In your relationship with God, one place you need to get to is the place of brokenness. To be broken is to have some form of injury that makes the object less than a whole. In spiritual parlance, it is to break or subdue the flesh in order to be more profitable to the kingdom of God. Why do you need to be broken?...More

DELIVERANCE: DIVINE ASSURANCE

When God speaks, that settles it. He reigns forever. When He gives a decree, it is forever. When He says "surely", it means surely. When He says surely, it will be well with me, nobody can change it. He says surely, by His stripes I am healed, and nobody can change this. He says surely, everything I do shall...More
