The trial of the Lord Jesus Christ revealed irregular...

Again the high priest asked him, saying to him, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? Jesus said, I am.
Mark 14:61.62.

The trial of the Lord Jesus Christ revealed irregular legal proceedings indeed! The religious leaders try the case against the innocent One during the night, and the sentence of death has already been decided. Only the reason for the verdict has to be found. Enough witnesses appear, but that was insufficient for the verdict, as they contradicted one another. For all their astute argumentation, probably discussed beforehand, God did not allow His Son to be declared guilty for dubious reasons.

The accused remained silent. As the trial threatened to come to a standstill, the presiding high priest intervened with a decisive question: "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"

The high priest knew what he was talking about: the Messiah must be the Son of God. His people Israel was waiting for Him, as the Old Testament showed. That was well testified.

But he and most of the other seventy present were not prepared to admit that the silent prisoner was the Messiah, although He had given convincing proof of His identity from the beginning. At this point in the proceedings Jesus broke His silence and answered, "I am," and added some statements that annoyed His accusers.

Perhaps there are few who acknowledge that the question whether Jesus is the Christ is still topical today, and not just for the Jews. Is He the One sent by God? We cannot get round this question; it concerns our own good or peril.

Today's reading: Genesis 10:1-32 · 1 Peter 5:8-14

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More
