The Christians in Colosse were in grave danger of being...

In him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
Colossians 2:9.

The Christians in Colosse were in grave danger of being deceived by the influence of false teachers who sought to draw them away from the Lord. It was not so much a question of their giving up their faith in Christ as of placing other things alongside Him, such as philosophy (human wisdom), traditions (commandments and man's doctrine) and other elements (worshipping angels). That would result in their losing sight of Him as the Head.
God met this development by showing the Colossians through the apostle Paul the pre-eminence that the Lord Jesus Christ has in all things. In every sphere He has first place, whether in creation, the Church or the resurrection. Christ is

the Head of creation (ch. 1, v. 15),
the Head of the body, the Church (ch. 1, v. 18),
the Firstborn from the dead (ch. 1, v. 18) and
the Head of all principality and power (ch. 2, v. 10).
The Christians in Colosse were not to be occupied with "shadows", since they had the body (ch. 2, v. 17). The Spirit of God describes the glory of Christ for them in a wonderful way and summarises it in this statement: "In him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily". Regarding believers, they, too, were complete in Him. Glorious truth! So they needn't trouble themselves with useless factors that, in any case, could not give them what they already possessed in Christ. The Colossians needed to hold firmly to Christ, the Head. May God grant that we do so, too!

Today's reading: Genesis 16:1-16 · 2 Peter 3:11-18

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
