Today's reading: Isaiah ch. 37

In whom (Jesus Christ) we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Ephesians 1:7-8

Judge and Saviour
A judge in America had to decide a case for which the law imposed a fine. The accused, who had been found guilty, had been a friend of the judge in his youth. So he hoped to get off with the most lenient punishment that the law prescribed. Far from it! The judge imposed the severest punishment which went way beyond the means of the one sentenced. Many who attended the trial praised the judge's impartiality, although some voiced opinion that he might have been more understanding.
How astonished they were all when the judge suddenly left his seat and handed over the full amount of the fine for the guilty party. He had decided and announced the just punishment, but he paid it himself.
The sentence had been pronounced and the fine paid. No-one could raise any objection. Justice had been done and the accused was now justified. How? Not through anything done on his own part, but through sheer grace. A substitute had submitted to the sentence and paid what the law had demanded.
This is exactly how God acts. He cannot overlook sin, but must judge it. Yet whoever puts his faith in the Son of God can rest assured that the punishment for his sins was carried out on Christ, who, out of inconceivable love, settled the debt of all the guilt incurred.

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Always Be Humble

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
