Saved!

It pleased God to save those who believe.

He (Jesus) is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through him.

1 Corinthians 1:21; Hebrews 7:25.

Saved!
If you are being swept away by a river in flood, you need someone to save you. If you find yourself in a building on fire without being able to escape, you need someone to save you. If you are in debt and cannot pay, you ask for aid. These examples are the type of deliverance that the Bible alludes to, when it states that God saves those who believe.

What does Jesus save us from? He rescues us from the flood waves of sin that take us further and further away from God. He delivers us from the fire of eternal condemnation. He pays the debt of our sins.

In some countries rescue operations are free of charge for the victims, but very expensive for the general public. Similarly, God's salvation is free for us, but Jesus paid an enormous price for it, that of His life, as the gift of His love. That is why we cannot separate the salvation offered by God and faith in the Lord Jesus. Jesus is not only the One who proclaims the good news of free salvation: He is Himself that salvation. His Name means: "Saviour God". When the aged Simeon saw the baby Jesus in the temple, He exclaimed prayerfully; "Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation" (Luke 2:29 -30).

Refusing Jesus means refusing salvation and being freed. Who would reject such a free offer?

Today's reading: Genesis 24:15-31 · Psalms 7:9-17

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

As a bona fide member of the Kingdom of God, you must be a proof of His power to save. Matthew 1:21 says Jesus shall save His people from sin.

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
