Three consequences

We glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance character; and character hope. Now hope does not disappoint.
Romans 5:3-5.

Three consequences
The Lord Jesus has not promised us an easy life. We go through much tribulation that God has sent or permitted to test our faith.

When it states" "We glory in tribulations", it does not mean that the difficulties we experience bring us joy. That would not be rational. It rather signifies that we should rejoice over the positive effects that it has on our life.

The apostle indicates three consequences that God wishes to bring about through the arduous ways on which He leads us.

Perseverance. When we experience difficult times, it is our wish and prayer that God should remove them at once. But He does not always do so in order to teach us to be patient with Him. Despite the distress we must maintain our fellowship with Him instead of rebelling against it.
Endurance. Persevering with God forms our character: we learn to endure unpleasantness. If our life proceeded without any problems, we should not have these useful experiences by which God fortifies our faith. They convince us that it is worthwhile leading our life according to God's mind and not our own.
Hope. The circumstances through which God leads us strengthen both our earthly and our eternal hope. Instead of relying on ourselves or others in trying times we learn to place our hope in God and discover that He never disappoints us.

Today's reading: Genesis 24:32-49 · Psalms 8:1-9

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
