I am (3)

I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.
John 8:12.

I am (3)
Almost the whole of Europe was enveloped in total darkness nightly during World War II. If the moon and stars disappeared behind the clouds, people ran the risk of colliding with persons and objects everywhere in the streets. As a result of our modern street lighting hardly anyone knows what real darkness is.

It is just as black inside the human heart: not a ray of divine light can penetrate, unless the Lord Jesus dwells there. Scripture says of Him: "That was the true light which gives light to every man coming into the world" (John 1:9).

An encounter with the Lord Jesus means a proper recognition of the filth of sin. When Peter experienced the miracle of the great catch of fish, he realised what holy Person was aboard his ship. How did he react? He had to admit that his own condition was incompatible with the presence of the sinless Son of God: "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, o Lord" (Luke 5:8).

What transformation there is in the landscape when at dawn the natural beauty comes into view! God desires to ban all darkness from our hearts, so that the fruit of eternal life may be seen. Come to the Saviour of the world, Jesus Christ, and confess your sins to Him, so that you, too, can be made a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in light. That can happen only if you are saved from the power of darkness; then you will see everything from another standpoint. But do not despise the Light! Matthew 6:11.23 clearly shows the distinction between light and darkness.

(to be continued next Monday)

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
