Free of charge – but at what a cost!

You were bought at a price.

You have redeemed us to God by your blood.

1 Corinthians 6:20; Revelation 5:9.

Free of charge - but at what a cost!
We occasionally hear: "It's too easy to say that it's enough to believe to be saved!" We could reply: "Too easy for whom: for man, or for God?"

In love God welcomes man just as he is, a sinner, and gives him eternal life. He makes him His child in order to receive him in His heaven. What does He demand in return? Only faith and trust. Believing is the simplest means of salvation there could be. It is within the grasp of both a child and the aged, the ignorant and the learned. It is not a question of doing or giving. He who believes in the Son has everlasting life" (John 3:36). To be saved, after recognising one's lost condition, everyone must believe in the value of the sacrifice of Jesus.

Thus, for the believer all is free. But God had to pay the price of this freedom: He gave His Son. He "did not spare His own Son, but delivered him up for us all" (Romans 8:32). We cannot grasp what it meant for God to give His Son for us.

The Bible often speaks of the sufferings of Jesus on the cross. They are found prophetically in the Psalms: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Psalm 22:1) and in the prophets: "the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6). They are mentioned in the gospels, the epistles and the Revelation.

Believers have been saved free of charge, because Jesus paid an inestimable price for them!

Today's reading: Genesis 33:1-20 · Psalms 19:8-14

What shall the baptized for the dead do if ...

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More

Be clear minded and self-controlled' 1 Peter 4:7 NIV
Going from childhood to adulthood is a transition that requires a lot of wisdom and love. Your teen will feel and behave child-like sometimes, and adult-like other times. Your job is to realize that whatever their status, they will become a man (woman)...More
