The piggy bank

Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for in you do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you. Deliver me, o LORD; from my enemies; in you I take shelter.
Psalm 143:8.9.

The piggy bank
The Perez family's dog started barking in the courtyard one night. Everyone got up at once. They knew that guerrilla fighters were hidden near their village. The evening before some of them had come and extorted money from them. The children clung to their parents' hands in fear.

Amid loud banging at the front door coarse voices demanded, "Open up!" The father did so. Four threatening figures entered, grabbed him and the eldest son and made them stand by the wall. "Hand your money over!" they ordered. "Our money has already been taken," said Mr Perez. "Then we'll shoot you down," the leader declared in cold blood.

One of the small girls then went up to the man and saying, "I'll get you my piggy bank", ran off. Before the leader grasped what was happening, she re-appeared with a few small coins and handed them over. For a moment there was silence. Then the man bent over and kissed the young child.

Without a word, the men left the house. When the door closed, the Perez family knelt down together, and the father thanked the Lord for His kind protection.

God has thousands of ways to work miracles at His disposal. A small boy once brought five barley loaves and two fish to Jesus. With them the Son of God fed five thousand men (John 6:5-13).

"As for me, I would seek God, and to God I would commit my cause - who does great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number" (Job 5:8.9).

Today's reading: Job 14:1-22 · Acts 9:31-43

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, ...

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
