The invitation to a wedding (1)

Jesus spoke to them again by parables and said, The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding.
Matthew 22:1-3.

The invitation to a wedding (1)
Once again the Lord Jesus told a parable. This parable deals with the kingdom of heaven. It does not describe a kingdom in heaven, but one on earth that is governed according to heavenly principles.

First the persons involved are named:

The king represents God, as we shall see in the course of these meditations. God invites and offers and grants blessings.

The son is a presentation of the Person of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The servants are people who propagate the king's invitation. They are here primarily an illustration of the disciples of Jesus in His day, but also of anyone who proclaims God's message.

The invited guests are people who have been invited to a wedding, yet do not know precisely when it will take place. They represent the Jewish people, to whom the coming of the Messiah had been announced in the Old Testament.

The king wants to celebrate his Son's marriage and sends his servants to summon the guests to the wedding feast. The invitation cost nothing, and no demands were made regarding it. The invitation was to celebrate and rejoice with the king, participating in all the glorious arrangements made in honour of his son. Isn't such an invitation attractive?

(to be continued on Thursday)

Today's reading: Job 17:1-16 · Acts 10:34-48

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
