There was a video presentation in a museum that...

Destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known.
Romans 3:16.17.

There was a video presentation in a museum that shocked me. Violent acts by human beings were denounced. Dreadful scenes succeeded one another. I shall refrain from giving details. The impressions are still imprinted on my memory.

The history of the human race is one of warfare, terror and devastation, of blood and tears. After the experiences of our times no-one will dispute that.

What is the solution? Peace agreements have often failed. Dictators have possibly been able to establish apparent peace for a period, but it resembled rather the quiet of a cemetery.

Have we at last produced concepts for the future that promise real success?

As at all times, God presents the One He has chosen who alone can achieve peace, even if few are aware of the fact. And He will do so. He bears the title "Prince of peace!" (Isaiah 9:5), and rightly so!

When He came into this world, He was rejected. People found His message unacceptable. That has not changed today. But God stands by His plan of peace: bringing it in by His Son Jesus Christ. No-one else will ever succeed.

Today, however, everyone can obtain personal peace with God, which is the best pre-condition for peace among men: Jesus Christ "is our peace" (Ephesians 2:14).

Whoever yields his life to Christ, confessing his own failures and placing his trust solely on Jesus Christ, will experience the truth of His promise: "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you" (John 14:27).

Today's reading: Isaiah 3:1-15 · Acts 21:15-25
