The Deity of Jesus Christ (2)

God...has spoken to us by his Son, the brightness of his glory and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power.
Hebrews 1:1-3.

The Deity of Jesus Christ (2)
Many texts from the Bible testify of the deity of Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself affirmed His deity and received worship as God.

Jesus was called God by the Father Himself. We are profoundly touched by the prophetic word in Psalm 102:24, where Jesus Christ declares, "I said, O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days." The Father replies, "Your years are throughout all generations." Then He recalls His glory as the Creator of the heavens and the earth and states that He is ever the same, existing outside the restriction of time.

The early verses of the epistle to the Hebrews also set out majestically the greatness of God the Son as superior to both the prophets, by whom God had formerly spoken, and the angels, who render Him homage. The contrast with these latter is accentuated by the Father's declaration concerning His Son: "Your throne, o God, is for ever and ever" (v. 8).

God also says to Him, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you" (v. 5). This word teaches us that after the Jews had refused the divine message made known by the prophets, the Father introduced His Son in the realm of time, sending Him into the world. Thus, "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1:14).

What a mystery the incarnation is! God the Son assumed our nature, but the Bible affirms that He neither knew nor committed sin. So He could be the only holy victim, capable of bearing our sin on the cross of Calvary.

(to be concluded on Thursday)

Today's reading: Isaiah 24:14-25:12 · Acts 28:1-15

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
