Are we sincerely pleased to hear that God has...

Rejoice with those who rejoice.
Romans 12:15.

Are we sincerely pleased to hear that God has blessed others? For Christians this should be a matter of course, for God has joined believers in their fellowship together as members of one body. This makes it normal for a Christian to rejoice in all the good that God grants others: "If one member is honoured, all the members rejoice with it" (1 Corinthians 12:26).
We find a fine example of commonly shared joy in the epistle to the Philippians, the epistle of joy. The apostle Paul was prepared to sacrifice himself in his service for the Lord and the Philippians. In this way he wished to contribute to their joy: "I am glad and rejoice with you all." To his joy, however, he added the injunction: "For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me" (ch. 2:17.18).

He worked for the joy of others and wished to share joy with them. Love will always find a reason to share joy with others.

Genuine rejoicing over the blessing of others is a selfless attitude. It frees us from our own joys and troubles and puts us on the place of others. This is one way of fulfilling the command to love our neighbour as ourselves and thus resemble the Lord Jesus.

Truly loving and rejoicing selflessly is not an attribute of man's nature, which has been ruined by sin. Whoever knows Jesus Christ as his Saviour, however, has been born again and is able to act according to today's verse from the Bible. The apostle's example spurs believers on to rejoice selflessly with others.

Today's reading: Isaiah 28:1-29 · Hebrews 1:1-6

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
