Knowing, valuing and realising

That good thing that was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
2 Timothy 1:14.

Knowing, valuing and realising
In today's verse the apostle Paul speaks of a certain possession entrusted to Timothy. What is meant by it? It is the glorious truth set down by God in the Bible for mankind, especially the facts of the Christian faith. We know Him as our God and Father, who has revealed Himself in His Son. We also know the mystery of Christ and His Church. These invaluable treasures of our faith must be firmly held for their preservation. How is that possible?

The primary requisite is knowing the Christian truth that is presented and explained in the New Testament. Intensive occupation with the epistles of the apostle Paul helps us to become acquainted with the entire content of the Christian faith. The fact that Jesus Christ stands at the centre of God's thoughts rejoices our hearts as we investigate the Bible.

Secondly, only a true estimation of the Christian truth will motivate us to defend it against the enemy's attacks. If we love the Lord Jesus, we shall resolve to hold firmly to the Word of God.

Finally, we can keep the Christian truth only if we put it into practice. In a living relationship of faith with our Father in heaven and by carrying out the biblical instructions on gathering together as the Church, we shall honour our Lord in the way that we keep the treasure with which He has entrusted us.

Today's reading: Isaiah 37:21-38 · Hebrews 4:1-9

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
